Carbon Neutral

Over the last decade, the global carbon emissions have increased significantly despite collaborative efforts initiated under the Clean Development Mechanism. Leading carbon emitting nations have presented their proposals for taking up carbon responsibility in the post-2012 scenario. Notably, India and China have put-forth their voluntary commitments to reduce their current emission intensity by 24% and 40% respectively. Both these nations, being global economic power houses, are now facing a significant challenge of managing growth while addressing growing demands for sustainable development and climate responsibility.

Given this scenario, the Indian industry is witnessing enhanced policy and regulatory requirements as well as market driven pressure to become carbon responsible. The industry is hence looking for solutions that help realize these goals in a cost-effective and timely manner.

Further, Indian Industry will gain if it perceives carbon responsibility as an opportunity rather than a risk. If such initiatives are well planned and managed through a comprehensive framework, it will not only reduce the long-term operating costs of firms but will also help create an eco-friendly brand for their products/services.

The climate experts at the Energy Centre have been focused on engaging all stakeholders in capacity building and designing innovative solutions to meet the goals of post-2012 scenario.
